How to RéFresh for the work week with Elana Drell-Szyfer



Since mid-March, I’ve been working from home, so my routine has changed. I used to travel often and commute to and from New York City.  I’m not doing either of those things right now, which is giving me more time – a good deal of which I am using for “self-care” and “me-time.”  I’m also not using my travel size products, which I limit when I go on a trip, and I have much more time to spend in my bathroom in full discovery mode. 


These days, I’m sleeping much more than I used to.  I’m going to sleep later, but also waking up later.  5 a.m. used to be my wake-up time – now – its closer to 7 a.m.   


I used to be a weekend workout regular who tried to squeeze in 2-3 workouts during the week.  Now, I’m working out 6-7 days a week.  It’s not unusual for me to do 2 workouts (different types) – like a yoga class and then a boxing class, or a Peloton ride, a walk and a HIIT class all in the same day – especially on a Saturday or a Sunday. 


Getting regular facials has been something I’ve done from an early age.  However, earlier this Spring, all beauty outlets (salons, day spas, estheticians) were closed. This prompted my purchasing of several devices to try to replicate the types of beauty services that I was used to.  Specifically, I bought the Dermaflash tool, which is an at home version of Dermaplaning, the ZIIP, a pulsed microcurrent tool operated from an app you download on your phone, and an at-home infrared blanket to replicate the benefits of the infrared sauna.  


Like so many other people, I have been seeing myself a lot more these days, thanks to all of the video conferences that we do as a team internally, and with our external brand partners.  The “constant reminder” of seeing my face staring back at me has motivated me to spend more time on my skincare routine.  During the day, I’m applying both a face and eye serum followed by a daily moisturizer with an SPF and an eye cream.


At night, following a “double cleanse” with our Gel Cleanser and our Foaming Cleanser, followed by our Balancing Toner, I’ve been trying out several new products that we are working on for next year – so stay tuned.  If my eyes are feeling tired from a full day of “screen time” I’ll also apply a thick layer of our Masque Des Yeux and leave it on for the night.  It’s completely absorbed by morning and leaves the skin feeling soft, smooth and looking brighter and well rested.  


Twice a week, I’m also “multi-masking” – a name that the RéVive team taught me for applying multiple masks at the same time.  I use our Masque De Glaise clay mask in my T zone, or on a blemish – perhaps caused from protective mask wearing – and I will either apply our volumizing or brightening mask over the rest of my face.  After about 20 minutes, I remove both masks (I use the time to remain quiet and sometimes meditate) with a warm washcloth. My skin feels clean, fresh and renewed and ready to face another day of video calls.
